Our chalets are the largest of our riverside rooms, at 350 square feet, with the widest view of the Indus River, Shey Palace and the Himalayan range.
Each chalet has a wide verandah by the river and a bed that can be set up as a twin or a queen (72 × 78 inches), dressed in comfortable linen. Like all our rooms, the chalets are insulated to hold their heat in winter and stay cool in summer, with electric blankets and fans, and the rain shower runs on 24/7 hot water from solar panels. They are framed by willows at the river's edge, so its sound and the birdsong around it carry into the room.
Along with the sun-baked mud bricks, local wood and glass that each of our rooms have, the chalets were particularly built in a passive solar format with Trombe walls, a design that helps to regulate the inner temperature.
One of our chalets is a suite that, at 450 square feet, is the largest of the riverside rooms. It has a larger bathroom and an additional living room whose sofa converts easily into a bed with a thick mattress; the bedroom itself is set up as a double. The living room looks out onto the Stok Kangri mountain peak, and the suite has the most private location of the riverside rooms.
