Glass-Front Cottages in Ladakh | The Indus River Camp

Our three Riverside Cottages are designed to capture as much of the surrounding view as possible. The bedrooms look out onto the Indus River, Shey Palace and the Himalayas, and each cottage opens onto its own verandah of 50 square feet, the largest verandah among our riverside rooms, set among willow trees that offer shade.

At 240 square feet inside, the cottages are a little smaller than the cabins but have the larger verandah. The bed can be set up as a twin or a queen (72 × 78 inches), dressed with high-quality bed linen and Rajasthani quilts, alongside eco-conscious hotel amenities.

We used wood from the village to make the cottage floors. The front is made from glass, and the walls from sun-baked and stabilised mud bricks from our village.

The cottages are insulated to stay warm in winter and cool in summer, with electric blankets and fans, and hot water heated by solar panels with backups for the colder months. The river and the birdsong around it are within earshot throughout.
