Homestays

The landscapes of the Indus Valley, Pangong Lake and Nubra Valley, with all their beauty, won't give you a true experience of Ladakhi culture and hospitality. For this, we recommend putting up in a local homestay or family-run guesthouse, for at least a couple of days of your time in Ladakh.

There is no better way to get a sense of the local people than to stay with them. You can balance out your stay in our camp and in nature with a window into the Ladakhi experience.

Below are some of those that we recommend in and close to Leh.

SWISS HOMESTAY

The village of Phyang is a 30 minutes drive from Leh - it's close by, yet peaceful, with a monastery perched on a hilltop.

This charming homestay run is by one of the most experienced travel agents in Ladakh, Ishey.

There's a beautiful trek that can be done from Leh to Phyang.

JADE HOUSE

Within Leh, you get the comfort of staying in a fancy hotel, with the charm and personality of a homestay at Jade House. In town, there's no better host than Tsezin, nor better food - a combination of local and international dishes, carefully thought out, with local ingredients.

Most suitable for those staying within Leh - we recommend Jade House over any hotel.

6,000 Rupees for 2 pax. Meals are extra

ICE GUEST HOUSE

A short walk from Thiksey Monastery (perhaps the most beautiful gonpa of Ladakh) is the family-run Ice Guest House. Comfy rooms, amazing monastery views, decent wi-fi, a peaceful setting and warm, wonderful hosts make this an ideal spot for longer stays.

2,500 Rupees for 2 pax, with breakfast and dinner
